The newspaper ‘El Mundo’ reports that Matheus Nunes, Portuguese footballer who was a starter in Manchester City‘s 4-0 victory against Slovan Bratislava in the Champions League, was arrested on Sunday, September 8, at La Riviera nightclub in Madrid for stealing the cell phone of a person who took a photo of him in the bathroom.

Luis F. Duran publishes that “the agents took the footballer to the Arganzuela police station where he was taken to the police station where a statement was taken for an alleged crime of theft, as confirmed by the Madrid Police Headquarters. Hours later the midfielder was released with charges pending trial”.

The story of Matheus Nunes, City’s ‘new Rodri’: From baker to “one of the best in the world”

Matheus Nunes, a candidate to the fill the role of the injured Rodri, is a player for whom Manchester City paid 62 million euros to Wolverhampton Wanderers in 2023 and who played as a double pivot at Sporting CP.

“He is one of the best players in the world,” Pep Guardiola said of Matheus Nunes, back in 2022, after City played against Sporting CP.

Matheus Luiz Nunes was born in Rio de Janeiro (Brazil) on August 27, 1998 and at the age of 12 moved to Ericeira in Portugal.

“I grew up without a father. I lived in a favela and had a very difficult childhood. I didn’t think I would be a player. In the pastry shop I began to take responsibility and internalize that there are rules to follow,” he explained in an interview he gave to ‘Record’.

He started playing football for Ericeirense while helping out in the family bakery and later signed for Grupo Desportivo Estoril Praia.

In January 2019 he signed for Sporting CP and in June 2022 he was transferred to Premier League side Wolverhampton Wanderers.
