Manchester City make huge offer to renew Haaland… but there’s disagreement over the release clause

Manchester City have many fronts to resolve in the coming months. The renewal of Erling Haaland may not be the most urgent, as the Norwegian is under contract until 2027, but the club is already working on his renewal. According to the Daily Mirror in an “exclusive” report, they have already made an offer to their star.

According to this information, City is offering £500,000 (€$300,000) per week to Haaland. That means he would earn more than $30 million a year and would become the Premier League’s highest-paid player, ahead of his teammate Kevin de Bruyne.

If Haaland accepts the offer, and according to the Daily Mirror the response has been positive, he would sign with the English champions until the 2028-2029 season. That is, two seasons longer than he is currently contracted for.

However, the English media points to one problem to be solved: the player’s release clause, which is currently 150 million pounds (180 million euros). City want to remove it, but the player’s agents want to keep it. The Daily Mirror points to a possible compromise solution: that the release clause be increased to 200 million pounds (240 million euros).

Haaland has won two Premier League titles, a Champions League, a Golden Boot and two Premier League top scorer awards in his two seasons in a City shirt. He is now facing his third, with City not having his best season, but still in the fight for the most important titles.

Trial, Guardiola’s renewal…

Manchester City has a few months ahead of them that will define their future. They are awaiting trial for breaching financial rules, which could even lead to their expulsion from the Premier League. In addition, in recent months there have been growing rumors that this will be Pep Guardiola‘s last campaign on the Citizens bench, something that is not confirmed, but not ruled out either.

To all this is added the fact that just over a month ago it was announced that Txiki Begiristain will leave his position as Director of Football at the end of the season. Turbulent times for City, who at least want to tie down their star player until 2029.
