Bruno Fernandes reportedly clashed with an Everton legend before inspiring Manchester United to a comeback at Goodison Park.

The Red Devils came back from 2-0 down to draw with the Toffees on Saturday afternoon.

Everton had raced into a half-time lead thanks to goals from Beto and Abdoulaye Doucoure.

However, the visitors staged a second half fight back with Fernandes scoring first before Manuel Ugarte grabbed an equaliser 10 minutes from time.

The match was not without incident, though, as The Telegraph report that Fernandes was involved in a heated exchange at the interval.

As the United players emerged from the tunnel, the Portuguese reportedly clashed with Toffees legend Derek Mountfield.

According to the report, the former defender had jokingly mimed elbowing the United players as they headed back onto the pitch.

Fernandes took exception to his antics, though, confronting Mountfield as words were exchanged between the pair.

Mountfield spent six years at Goodison Park between 1982 and 1988.

During that time, the former England under-21 international made 148 appearances and scored 24 goals from central defence.

He also won five trophies including the Cup Winners’ Cup and the FA Cup.

Meanwhile, Fernandes went on to score past Jordan Pickford as Ruben Amorim’s side salvaged a point on Merseyside.

The visitors escaped a late penalty scare, though, after VAR overturned Andy Madley’s decision to point to the spot.

Everton had been awarded a spot-kick after Ashley Young went down under challenges from Harry Maguire and Matthijs de Ligt.

Following a review and a visit to the pitchside monitor, however, the decision was overturned.

David Moyes was unimpressed as he reflected on the incident at full-time.

The Everton boss explained: “Did they mention the shirt-pull? They only mentioned what they needed to mention.

“To me, the shirt-pull looked enough for it to be given. My feeling is you shouldn’t be pulling jerseys.

“I can’t understand why the referee on-field makes a decision and goes to the screen if it isn’t a clear and obvious error. I thought he made the correct decision at the time and should have stuck with it.

“I think everyone who watches football is looking forward to a referee saying I’m sticking with what I’ve done. From what I saw I didn’t think it was clear and obvious. I didn’t think VAR needed to get involved in it.”

The result leaves Everton a point above their opponents in 14th place, 14 points clear of the bottom three.

United’s hopes of European qualification continue to fade, though, with the Red Devils now 14 points adrift of the top four.
