Golf has many prestigious tournaments none more so than the Ryder Cup.
With the talented Europeans pipped up against the might of the USA – golf doesn’t get much bigger.
Played every two years, the golfing world grinds to a halt when Ryder Cup season arrives, with the competition conjuring up some classic moments over the years.
The three-day tournament is undoubtedly the most intense three days on the golfing calendar, which brings a lot of pressure upon the players.
Some golfers however seemingly thrive on that intensity, with a few players in particular shining on the biggest stage.
With that being said – here are the five best Ryder Cup players of all time according to the stats and numbers.
5) Lee Westwood – Europe
Having managed to win a major championship, Lee Westwood arguably saved his best golf for the Ryder Cup.
The English golfer always provided the goods when Europe needed him most winning 21 matches in total – the joint fourth most in history.
4) Bernhard Langer – Europe
Bernhard Langer enjoyed a very fruitful pro career, with some of his best moments coming in the Ryder Cup.
The German racked up an impressive 21 wins for Europe, also picking up 11 wins in foursome matches – the second-highest tally in Ryder Cup history.
3) Arnold Palmer – USA
Arguably one of the greatest golfers in history – Arnold Palmer is the USA’s best performer at the Ryder Cup.
The seven-time major winner ranks third in the all-time list in terms of matches won with 22, two in front of compatriots Billy Casper and Lanny Wadkins.
Having only won four Ryder Cups since 1999, the USA team may have enjoyed a better record if they had Palmer in their ranks.
2) Nick Faldo – Europe
Having lifted the Ryder Cup on numerous occasions – Nick Faldo is undoubtedly one of Europe’s best.
The three-time Masters winner played in a staggering 46 matches at the Ryder Cup, winning a record 23 of those.
Faldo even led Team Europe into the 2008 competition as captain – they would however lose out to the US (16½ – 11½).
1) Sergio Garcia – Europe
In terms of stepping up to the plate at the Ryder Cup – none have done it more often than Sergio Garcia.
Winning six of his ten appearances at the prestigious tournament, the Spaniard has enjoyed a hugely successful record playing for Team Europe.
The 2017 Masters winner has won a whopping 25 matches and 28.5 points at the Ryder Cup, the highest amount in the competition’s history.
