Alejandro Garnacho warned he’ll ‘ruin his career’ after storming down the tunnel following Man United substitution

Alejandro Garnacho risks ruining his football career after he stormed down the tunnel in Manchester United’s victory over Ipswich Town.

That’s the view of talkSPORT’s Dean Saunders, who suggested how his reaction could reflect on United head coach Ruben Amorim.

Garnacho was substituted before half-time in their 3-2 win against Ipswich after Patrick Dorgu saw red for a tackle on Omari Hutchinson.

The winger swiftly walked down the touchline and into the tunnel at Old Trafford after coming off, rather than taking to the bench.

He appeared to signal towards the dugout that he was changing his shirt amid the torrential rain during the match.

However, Amorim revealed afterwards that he will speak to Garnacho about his tunnel walk : “I am going to talk with Garnacho about that.”

Speaking on the 20-year-old’s decision, former Liverpool and Aston Villa star Saunders issued a warning about his attitude.

“He’s walking on thin ice, Garnacho, he is,” he said on talkSPORT Breakfast.

“If you look at the league table, there’s not a player at Man United who can complain to the manager for not playing or getting brought off, look where they are in the league.

“And if he’s, from what I’ve heard, he’s arguing with the manager, he’s arguing with the tactics and he’s throwing his toys out the pram when he gets brought off.

“He’s going to ruin his career if he carries on.”

Saunders, who previously managed Wolves, reflected on his coaching experience and how he’d deal with the situation in Amorim’s shoes.

“I used to say to the group, ‘Listen, your job is to go out and do your job in your role, whether it’s a striker, getting goals, making goals.

“My job is to pick the right team, give you some tactics with and without the ball, and then the only way I can affect the game is by making substitutions in the last half an hour.

“So if I bring you off, don’t take it personal, and don’t… There’s people stood behind me, directors and owners of the club.

“When you’re shaking your head walking off, how do you think I look standing in the technical area?

‘Come and see me Monday morning, knock on my door and I’ll explain to you why I took you off. Don’t show it out there in front of everyone.”

Despite being down to ten men, United won their ninth league match of the season during the visit of Ipswich.

The Tractor Boys took the lead after just four minutes when Jaden Philogene capitalised on a mixup between Andre Onana and Dorgu.

United fought back with a Sam Morsy own-goal and Matthijs de Ligt close range finish, only for Philogene to net again before the break.

However, Amorim’s side pulled through and won all three points early on in the second half thanks to a Harry Maguire header.
