Jurgen Klopp admitted he struggled to take the pressure of Liverpool‘s players during the title run-in last season, as the Reds ultimately fell short after a series of disappointing results in the final few weeks of the season.

Liverpool sat at the top of the table after 30 matches last term but won just three of its final eight league games and ended the campaign in third position, nine points off Manchester City in first.

In a clip from the club’s new Amazon Prime documentary, Klopp, speaking in the final few weeks of 2023-24 campaign after it became apparent that the title had drifted out of reach, admitted his personal disappointment at the Reds’ difficult end to the season.

“It’s a little bit like we build a long time and couldn’t use the basis we created,” Klopp said. “It adds the personal disappointment I feel in this moment that I couldn’t, for whatever reason, I still don’t know, couldn’t create the atmosphere where the boys wouldn’t feel the pressure and trust the opportunity.

“I’m here, sitting here now, and I’m absolutely fine with it, what happened, bam, that’s it. And I just want to enjoy my last two and a half, three weeks at this wonderful club.”

Liverpool finds itself in a promising position at the top of the Premier League again this season, and it will be down to Arne Slot to ensure the team gets over the line this time around.

Although it is important that the players stay grounded, they are in a much stronger position than they were during Klopp’s final season in charge, and it would take a colossal collapse now for the title not to end up at Anfield.

Slot’s men are 13 points clear of Arsenal in second place, and Manchester City, which in previous seasons has made a habit of becoming a winning machine during the second half of seasons, has not been a factor in the title race for a number of months.

Arsenal’s injury crisis in attack means the Gunners are likely to drop further points in the weeks ahead too having failed to win either of their last two games.
