Arsenal fans have a worrying message for Mikel Arteta after watching their former striker Danny Welbeck score the winning goal as Brighton beat Newcastle.
The Seagulls reached the FA Cup quarter-finals as the former Arsenal striker netted in stoppage time to win it for Fabian Hurzeler’s team.
It proved to be a feisty affair between the two clubs as both teams had red cards with Anthony Gordon being shown red for pushing Jan Paul van Hecke before Tariq Lamptey was shown a second yellow.
But it was Welbeck who ended up stealing the headlines as the 34-year-old scored the winner at St James’ Park and Arsenal fans were left in agreement about the striker.
Danny Welbeck scores winning goal vs Newcastle
Danny Welbeck produced a wonderful finish against Newcastle to score his seventh goal of the season for the Seagulls.
The striker latched on to a wonderful through ball from Solly March and expertly lifted the ball from an awkward angle over Martin Dubravka.
Even at the age of 34, the former Arsenal and Man United forward proved that he is still a top striker and why he remains a key player for a team like Brighton.
It will also leave Arsenal questioning whether they have anyone currently fit in their squad who could finish how Welbeck did.
Arsenal fans convinced Danny Welbeck would start for them
Arsenal fans are convinced that Welbeck would still be starting for them now and some even think he would start over Kai Havertz.
Arsenal allowed the Premier League veteran to leave the Emirates at the end of the 2018/19 season with injuries having hampered his time in North London.
Welbeck netted 32 goals in 126 appearances for the Gunners and since leaving under Unai Emery, the striker has only become better.
Now, after his brilliant winning goal against the Magpies, the Arsenal faithful have a message that should concern Mikel Arteta and the board.
One Arsenal fan said: “Danny Welbeck right now would be Arsenal’s main striker even with Havertz fit…”
“I’m watching Brighton beat Newcastle and imagining Arsenal still having Welbeck in the team. I don’t think we would be having conversations about missing Havertz and Saka,” claimed another supporter.
There was yet more praise for the former Arsenal striker: “Danny Welbeck is far better than our attacking players even without injuries. What I would give to have him now.”
Even fans from other clubs were posing the question: “Would Arsenal be closer to Liverpool if they still had Danny Welbeck? I’m convinced they would. The big clubs are always after the blockbuster signings when there are players hiding in plain sight. What a finish that is.”
