Mikel Arteta has plenty of reasons to be worried at Arsenal currently.
Firstly, Arsenal could spend his fourth full season in charge without winning a major trophy — which would be gut-wrenching for Arteta as it clear to see how much the club have progressed under his leadership.
Secondly, Mikel Arteta would also not wish to lose the support of the fanbase.
Arsenal have no plans to sack Mikel Arteta as the higher-ups in N17 still have full faith in him.
The Spaniard looks set to be given more time to turn the Gunners from a side contending for the major honours into serial winners.
Tim Sherwood has now had his say on Mikel Arteta.
Tim Sherwood says Arsenal should not sack Mikel Arteta
Sherwood was initially asked whether Arsenal have regressed under Arteta this season.
The former Tottenham Hotspur boss admitted that it is “difficult” to say with how many injuries have hampered the North Londoners this campaign.
However, Tim Sherwoood believes Arsenal have massively progressed under Mikel Arteta and the club should not even consider sacking him.
Sherwood said on Sky Sports News: “Difficult to compare because we’re talking about severe injuries to attacking players and a superstar in [Bukayo] Saka. So, for me, it’s really hard to judge. I wouldn’t be suggesting any changes to the hierarchy of the management or anything stupid like that. What I’ll be saying is perhaps the recruitment must be looking a little bit harder.”
“You’ve had teams like Man City ahead of them and a manager like Pep Guardiola so it’s an unfair playing field, you could say the same for every field. They’ve definitely develop under Mikel, I wouldn’t be making any knee-jerk reactions to get rid of him, I think you have to give him next year with a striker as well.”
Arsene Wenger always had faith in Mikel Arteta and in fairness to the French legend, it is impossible to deny the impact he has had in his first managerial job.
Five managers Arsenal could appoint if they sack Arteta
However, Jay Bothroyd vouched for Andoni Iraola managing Arsenal and taking over from Arteta in the event that he was given his marching orders.
The challenge for Arsenal would be whether the managers on the market would be to determine whether the managers on the market would be upgrades on the 42-year-old if they felt he not the right man for the job.
But currently, there are several high-profile managers who the English giants could snap up.
AVAILABLE MANAGERS | LAST JOB |
MASSIMILIANO ALLEGRI | JUVENTUS |
XAVI | BARCELONA |
ERIK TEN HAG | MANCHESTER UNITED |
EDIN TERZIC | BORUSSIA DORTMUND |
MAURIZIO SARRI | LAZIO |
The likes of Massimiliano Allegri, Xavi, Erik ten Hag, Edin Terzic and Mauricio Sarri are all available but whether their track record and styles of play fit the Arsenal project is questionable to say the least.
With that being the case, perhaps the best advice for Arsenal would be to stick with Mikel Arteta as Tim Sherwood suggested and recruit well in the summer to ensure they win major trophies next season.
