Inter Milan are reportedly considering making a move for Manchester United attacker Mason Mount during this summer’s transfer window.

The 26-year-old scored 33 goals and registered 35 assists in 195 appearances for Chelsea before making the move to Man United in 2023, but he has struggled to make his mark for the 20-time English champions due to injury problems.

Fitness issues have restricted Mount to just 32 appearances for the Red Devils, scoring once and providing one assist, and he has been on the sidelines since the middle of December with his latest problem.

There is no clear return date for Mount at this stage of proceedings, and there has recently been speculation surrounding his future, with Man United believed to be considering moving him on at the end of the campaign.

According to TodoFichajes, Inter are keeping a close eye on the situation, with the Italian giants considering making a move for the England international during this summer’s transfer window.

The report claims that Inter would be looking to sign Mount on an initial loan, with the move then potentially becoming permanent during the summer of 2026, providing that the playmaker can overcome his fitness problems.

A deal could be complicated by the fact that Inter are only allegedly prepared to pay a small portion of Mount’s wages, which are in the region of £250,000 a week.

Shortly after his arrival as Man United head coach, Ruben Amorim said that he ‘loves’ Mount, viewing him as a key part of his plans moving forward, but the Englishman has simply been unable to stay fit.

“Mason Mount… I have to tell you I love that kid,” Amorim told Man United media. “You can look in his eyes that he wants this so bad. And this is the most important thing for me.

“I know he was suffering from injuries, he was not on the pitch, but now he’s trying to stay fit and we hope he can continue to be fit, to show all the talent that he’s shown, for example, in Chelsea.

“He played in this system [before], so it’s perfect for him. I have two positions for Mason Mount, so he should be very happy!”

Should Man United look to move Mount on?

Mount has simply never been able to get going at Man United due to his fitness problems.

At his best, Mount is a dynamic and energetic midfielder capable of providing goals and assists, and it is easy to see where he would fit in at Man United under Amorim, being perfect for the one of the two number 10 spots in the side.

However, there are serious concerns over his fitness record, and if that continues for the second half of the season, then Man United should be looking to move him on.

A loan deal does not make sense, though, as the club would still be paying the majority of his wages, so unless a permanent offer arrives during this summer’s transfer window, Mount should remain at Old Trafford, and he could be like a new signing for the Red Devils next season if he is finally able to put his fitness issues behind him.
