With the international break approaching, Ruben Amorim has recommended a key Manchester United player for England’s national team coach Thomas Tuchel to consider.
The Football Association (FA) has made a significant decision in appointing German coach Thomas Tuchel as England‘s new national team manager, aiming to strengthen the squad ahead of the upcoming World Cup. With his official debut on the horizon, Ruben Amorim has recommended a key Manchester United player for Tuchel to consider for the national team.
Currently sitting 14th in the Premier League, Manchester United is experiencing one of their most challenging seasons in recent memory. Despite this difficult period, Amorim has singled out Harry Maguire as a player Tuchel should pay attention to for the upcoming international fixtures.
When asked about the possibility of Maguire receiving a call-up, Amorim spoke highly of the player. “If it’s enough is with the national coach. I would be really happy for him, I think he deserves (it). He is a great guy, I think he needs to still improve because when you are a player you can improve every time and improve a lot of things,” Amorim said via the club’s official website.
Amorim also praised Maguire’s recent performances and his leadership qualities: “But I think his performances in the moment are quite good and you feel he is more a leader now that can help a national team, so I hope he is in the national team in the next games.”
After recovering from an early-season injury, Maguire has established himself as one of the key figures in Amorim’s defensive setup. In addition to his strong defensive performances, the English center-back has scored two winning headers in recent weeks, against Leicester City and Ipswich Town.
Tuchel’s imminent debut with England
Thomas Tuchel, announced as England‘s new manager in October, has officially begun his tenure in early 2025. With a wealth of experience from his time at top European clubs such as Borussia Dortmund, Chelsea, and Bayern Munich, Tuchel is taking on his first role as a national team manager.
England will kick off their journey in the UEFA World Cup qualifiers, sharing Group K with Albania, Latvia, Andorra, and Serbia. Tuchel will make his debut in charge of England against Albania at Wembley Stadium on March 21st, followed by a home fixture against Latvia on March 24th.
