The forward was the only surprise absentee from the group that took part in a warm-up and keep-ball session in front of the cameras, although the goalkeepers’ session was not visible.

Youngsters James McConnell, Trey Nyoni, Rio Ngumoh were part of the first-team group with the latter registered to play in the Champions League from the last-16 stage.

The Reds, refreshed by a weekend off due to their FA Cup elimination, put in their preparation at Kirkby ahead of flying to Paris for the first leg on Wednesday.

Joe Gomez and Conor Bradley were still absent for the Reds, with both defenders injured. Tyler Morton is also unavailable. As for Gakpo, an update could emerge in Arne Slot’s press conference on Tuesday evening.

The attacker missed the games against Wolverhampton Wanderers and Aston Villa last month due to a knock he sustained in the draw against Everton but recovered and came off the bench in subsequent wins over Manchester City and Newcastle United.

Should he miss out against PSG, Luis Diaz is the most likely option to start on the left wing, with Diogo Jota and Mohamed Salah also selected in the offensive areas. Darwin Nunez is another option, or Slot could revert to the double no.10s he debuted against City.

Liverpool face PSG after topping the Champions League league phase to move on to the last-16, while the French champions progressed via the play-offs and convincingly beat Brest 10-0 over two legs.

After playing the first leg at the Parc des Princes this week, the teams meet at Anfiled next Tuesday for the second leg. The winner of the tie will face Aston Villa or Club Brugge in the quarter-finals.

Cody Gakpo is a doubt to face PSG.
