Manchester United legend Paul Scholes has revealed that legendary manager once forced an injured star to play, and it didn’t go well.
During his 26 seasons in charge at United, club legend Ferguson became infamous for his ruthless decisions and brutal no nonsense attitude towards his players.
Clearly, his attitude towards management at Old Trafford worked amazingly, as he led the club to an incredible total of 38 trophies with United.
But the Scotsman wasn’t flawless, as United great Scholes has revealed that his former boss once made a massive mistake by forcing an injured star to play a match.
In November 2010, former United midfielder Hargreaves was named in the starting lineup for the Premier League match against Wolverhampton Wanderers following a lengthy injury.
But Scholes has now claimed that his teammate wasn’t quite ready to return yet, as he told Ferguson that he felt something in his hamstring before the match, but was ignored.
Scholes was speaking on The Overlap Fan Debate, brought to you by Sky Bet: “I remember, we had Owen Hargreaves who was unfortunately injured a lot, and the manager eventually became frustrated because we couldn’t get him back.
“I remember one game where we were playing Arsenal at home, Owen had been out for some time and was nearly back, and he went out for the warmup and came in feeling his hamstring and you could just see the anger and frustration in the manager’s face.
“He said, “You’re playing,” and that was it. It didn’t end well – within 15 minutes, Owen had to come off and was out for a long time after that – there has to be frustration from managers as well.”

Hargreaves’ appearance against Wolves was his first start in over two years after regular injuries often kept him out of the teamsheet following his move to Old Trafford from Bayern Munich in 2007.
The brief appearance against Wolves was the Englishman’s first start for United since September 2008, and it was his final Premier League appearance in red, ahead of joining local rivals Manchester City in the summer of 2011.
