The FA Cup took centre stage at the weekend, and one of the big talking points from the Fifth Round was one of Arsenal’s key transfer targets.

Matheus Cunha would be a good fit for ArsenalArsenal discipline issues this season

Indeed, Arsenal have been linked with Matheus Cunha in recent times, and, on Saturday, he received a red card against Bournemouth.

Matheus Cunha was sent off after lashing out at Milos Kerkez, and that incident has raised a few questions about the Brazilian and his future.

This comes just weeks after Cunha was banned for a post-game scuffle against Ipswich Town.

Speaking on It’s All Kicking Off, Ian Ladyman and Chris Sutton have been discussing Cunha’s future after this red card.

Ladyman questioned whether any top club would want Cunha after this incident.

Interestingly, Chris Sutton claimed that Cunha could now be a good fit for Arsenal amid their discipline issues this season.

Matheus Cunha would be a good fit for Arsenal

Sutton joked about Cunha moving to Arsenal after being sent off this weekend.

The pundit claimed that Cunha is a top player who is worthy of playing for a top club, claiming that Arsenal could be a good fit due to their discipline issues.

Cunha has a £62m release clause.

“And would a big club worry about him (Cunha) in terms of his, not his attitude, because I’ve got it written down here, attitude, not attitude, because he’s a winner. He’s a fighter, plays for a team, match winning moments, cares a lot. But is the way that attitude can bubble over sometimes and this propensity for getting himself into trouble. Would that, if you were recruiting for a top club, would that worry you?” Ladyman asked.

“Well, he’ll probably end up at Arsenal if he’s undisciplined, wouldn’t he? It’d be a good fit,” Sutton said

“He’s trying to wind up our producer, Henry,” The host said.

“No, no, I’m not. I mean, look, I think our producer said that he holds his hands up and says that Arsenal have had disciplinary problems this season,” Sutton said.

“So, yeah, so, I mean, look, you look at his footballing ability, and ability-wise, I think that he’s shown up, that he’s capable of playing for a top club. I was mightily surprised he signed that new contract. Great news for Wolves.”

Arsenal discipline issues this season

Sutton says that Cunha would be a good fit for Arsenal due to their discipline problems this season, and he’s not too far wrong.

Indeed, Cunha has been one of the most ill-disciplined players in the Premier League in recent months, while Arsenal have been the worst team in the Premier League this season in terms of discipline.

Arsenal have actually picked up more red cards than any other team this season.

Arsenal red cards this season What happened?

Leandro Trossard vs Manchester City Sent off for kicking the ball away
William Saliba vs Bournemouth Sent off for last man tackle
Myles Lewis-Skelly vs Wolves* Sent off for stopping counter attack
Myles Lewis-Skelly vs West Ham Sent off for second yellow card foul

Myles Lewis-Skelly’s red card vs Wolves sparked a big response last month, while Declan Rice’s red card vs Brighton was controversial.

Whether or not Arsenal move for Cunha remains to be seen, but there have been plenty of links on that front, so this is a situation to keep an eye on.

If Cunha does sign for Arsenal, he’ll have to curb his temper because Arsenal have had enough discipline issues this season.
