Paris Saint-Germain coach Luis Enrique is set to turn to his old Barcelona teammate Pep Guardiola for insights as he gears up PSG to face Liverpool. Arne Slot’s men are scheduled to clash with the Ligue 1 heavyweights in the Champions League at the Parc des Princes on Wednesday.

It is reported by The Mirror that the strong bond and mutual support between the former Barça allies means Enrique will likely seek some tactical wisdom from Manchester City boss Guardiola, having already seen what Slot’s approach has infused into Anfield the previous month.

Liverpool boasts the highest number of league victories this term across Europe’s top five leagues. At the same time, PSG has secured its spot comfortably atop Ligue 1 and breezed into the Champions League last-16 after a resounding 10-0 aggregate victory against Brest in the playoff round.

Enrique has voiced his thoughts on the upcoming tie: “It will be a 50-50 contest. It will be two games between two fairly equal teams. I am delighted with the draw. Both teams are of a very high level and it will be very exciting.

“During the group phase, we both played against high-level teams like Manchester City and Real Madrid in games that could have easily been in the final. If you look at the profiles of us and Liverpool, we are similar in that we both have a willingness to attack.

“We will play against the best team in Europe, qualified brilliantly, but it is not in our mentality to speculate, protect ourselves, stay defensive. We will attack and we will try to turn that in our favor.

“I know Liverpool very well, without a doubt, it is the team in the best form in Europe, both in terms of results and play. It could have been a Champions League final, we’re going to try to do it with our weapons.”

Slot has already secured two wins over Guardiola and Manchester City this season as his side continues its push for the Premier League. The Reds beat City 2-0 at Anfield back in December, although the scoreline flattered the visitors and then made another statement in the title race at the Etihad last month as Mohamed Salah and Dominik Szoboszlai secured a vital three points.
