In his two seasons at the club, Ange Postecoglou has already watched a lot of players come and go from Tottenham Hotspur.
Tottenham broke their transfer record when signing Dominic Solanke from Bournemouth last summer, and Spurs have also said goodbye to club legends like Hugo Lloris, who started a fresh chapter in the United States.
Of course, Postecoglou’s squad has been threadbare at times this season owing to injuries, and it now seems as if the club’s planning wasn’t sufficient last summer.
Oddly, Pep Guardiola praised Tottenham’s squad depth recently, but Postecoglou might actually argue otherwise given what many fans perceive as a lack of ambition by the board in recent years.
That being said, Spurs fans watching the Champions League this week might actually regret one departure the club sanctioned last season.
Tottenham made a mistake letting Ivan Perisic leave for free
Although PSV Eindhoven were obliterated by Tottenham’s rivals Arsenal in the Champions League, 36-year-old Ivan Perisic still looked a danger throughout.
Perisic played 90 minutes on the right wing for Peter Bosz and almost helped PSV go ahead with the game at 0-0, only for his teammate to hit the bar once the Croatian’s dangerous cross was parried.

Of course, Perisic left Tottenham in the midst of his recovery from a serious injury, eventually signing a short-term deal with Croatian side Hajduk Split.
But on reflection, it seems as if Spurs were a little too hasty when allowing Perisic to leave, whether he was injured or not.
The Croatian was reportedly on a big wage in N17, but were Spurs able to negotiate that figure down on a short-term basis, his quality would have definitely helped in north London this season.
Perisic caused several probelms for Arsenal despite PSV’s heavy defeat
In truth, Perisic could still fill several different roles for Postecoglou very effectively, a player who would also offer invaluable experience to Spurs’ dressing room.
As he displayed for PSV against Arsenal, Perisic is still technically brilliant despite his age, and he’d clearly be an asset for most Premier League sides.

The Croatian still oozes end product, and whilst he’s not a typical Postecoglou player, he’s someone who no Premier League defence would enjoy playing against.
Spurs let a good one go, and although it made a lot of financial sense at the time, it now looks like a poor choice strictly from a football point of view – a conclusion that has often been reached by fans in N17 recently.
Hailed as ‘incredible’ recently, Perisic still has what it takes to win games at the highest level, and he was a clever pick up for PSV after Tottenham cut ties with the winger.
