Andrea Berta is the favourite to become Arsenal’s Sporting Director
The position has been vacant since Edu resigned last year, although Jason Ayto has filled the role on an interim basis.
Ayto was one of the candidates to get the job full-time, along with Dan Ashworth, who was fired by Manchester United in December after just five months, Roberto Olabe currently with Real Sociedad, and Monaco CEO Thiago scuro.
However, with the club set to announce who has got the job this month, Berta has moved ahead of the chasing pack, with the Gunners impressed with the work he had done at Atletico Madrid over a decade.
He has since spent some time in the UK learning English which is an essential prerequisite of the job
