Liverpool have survived an onslaught at Paris Saint-Germain before striking late to take a 1-0 lead back to Anfield in their Champions League last-16 tie.
The Reds were second best for most of the game as PSG dominated them in every key metric – except the one that really counted.
Liverpool withstood 27 shots from PSG, 10 of which were on target, and had just 29.5 percent possession to the hosts’ 70.5 percent.
However, Alisson Becker delivered a masterclass, making nine saves to thwart PSG and enabling the Reds to go up at the other end and score a late winner.
Stephen Warnock, speaking after the game, lavished Alisson with praise as he described just what kind of player the £67million man is.
Liverpool star Alisson Becker the kind of player that gets clubs to ‘win titles’
Warnock has described Alisson as the kind of player that clubs sign for big-game performances like the one he delivered against PSG, the kind that gets teams to “win titles”.
“You need your goalkeeper to be at his very best… they got away with it because of Alisson,” the former Liverpool defender said on BBC Radio 5 Live.
“You buy those type of players for performances like that. That’s how you win titles, that’s how they won the Champions League [in 2019].
“Alisson is so key to the way they perform. He is superb at reading situations. His decision-making is exceptional.”
What other media figures said about Alisson
Paul Merson said on Sky Sports News: “It’s been PSG vs Alisson. One of the best performances I’ve seen from a goalkeeper for a long time.
Referring to the stop Alisson made in the 80th minute, Merson said: “It’s a phenomenal save. He’s been outstanding.”
Meanwhile, Sky Sports reporter Vinny O’Connor said live from the Parc des Princes: “Everything Alisson did tonight was exemplary.
“The difference tonight was that when Donnarumma needed to make his one meaningful save he couldn’t get enough on it.
“Smash and grab, name on the cup, trot out all the clichés you like but it doesn’t take away what a moment that was for Harvey Elliott.
“In a season where he’s struggled for game time….replacing Mo Salah with just minutes to go and he snatches the first leg winning goal.
“But this was a win built on Alisson’s brilliance.”
