It was a summer of change at Liverpool last year.
Indeed, Jurgen Klopp left Anfield after nine incredible years in charge, and Arne Slot took up the mantle as Liverpool manager.
Slot has taken to life at Anfield like a duck to water, and a lot of his good fortune has been down to the form of Mohamed Salah.
Indeed, Salah is in Ballon d’Or winning form at the moment, and his goals have taken Liverpool to the brink of the Premier League title.
There’s a reason Salah is regarded as ‘world class’.
However, it very nearly didn’t go this way.
Salah was linked with a move to Saudi Arabia last summer, and according to Slaven Bilic, speaking on The Lineup, this deal was actually meant to happen.

Slaven Bilic says Mohamed Salah was supposed to leave Liverpool
Bilic shared what he knew about Salah’s potential move to Saudi Arabia.
Bilic was actually managing in Saudi Arabia last summer, so he was in and around the negotiations that were happening throughout the league.
The Croatian says that everyone in Saudi Arabia was expecting Salah to arrive last summer and that a deal was supposed to happen.
“They thought he was going to Saudi,” The host said.
“It was Al-Ittihad, I was there last season, he was supposed to go there,” Bilic said.
“You were in Saudi Slaven, were you expecting Salah to join?” Bilic was asked.
“The whole of Saudi was ready. The man is such a big star as Mo Salah, he would be the star of the league, it was job done there,” Bilic said.
“I wasn’t surprised, because he is a sportsman, he knows it’s waiting for him, he knows it’s not just one year take it or it’s gone.”
Is Mohamed Salah staying at Liverpool?
Salah was reportedly supposed to leave Liverpool last summer, and, that conversation is bound to start up again soon.
Indeed, Salah’s contract is up at the end of the season, and while contract talks are going well, there’s nothing signed as of yet.
Salah has dropped a few hints this season suggesting he will leave, publicly stating that this is his final season at Liverpool.
However, Salah has recently been more coy on that matter, refusing to comment on if his recent game vs Man City was his final game against his great rivals.
“Sunday may be your last game against Man City, is it a bit more special for you for that?” Salah was asked.
“To be fair, I don’t know. I just feel like my whole focus now is to win the Premier League, it doesn’t matter if it’s the last game or not the last game, we will see,” Salah said.
Salah’s situation could go either way at the moment, but one thing is for sure, Liverpool won’t be keen to lose the Egyptian after putting in what has been his best season so far for the Reds.
