The scary thing about this young man’s potential is that he’s not even playing in his natural position right now.
Indeed, Lewis-Skelly only trained as a left-back last summer, and he’s taken to that role like a duck to water.
Speaking on the Wrighty’s House Podcast, Ian Wright has been discussing Lewis-Skelly’s position, and he reckons that the youngster is still a number eight at heart and he can’t wait to see him move back into midfield.

Wright spoke about Lewis-Skelly’s future as a midfield player.
The pundit reckons the teenager will ultimately end up playing in midfield, claiming that he can’t wait to see him in that role on a more regular basis.
“You know something? He’s a number eight man. You could see that eight all day long,” Wright said.
“I can’t wait for that to happen, He’s amazing. Like, he’s amazing.”
What Myles Lewis-Skelly said about his position
Wright says Lewis-Skelly is set to be a midfield player, and the youngster himself has discussed his role in the past.
Speaking to Arsenal’s website, Lewis-Skelly says that he knows where he wants to end up playing long-term, alluding to a midfield role, but, for now, he’s happy to just play wherever he’s needed.
“Long term, in my head, I know where I want to go, but right now I’m looking at what I can do to help the team, and wherever I’m effective in a team role, I’ll take it,” Lewis-Skelly said.
“I still need to establish myself, of course, but I’m really enjoying playing at left-back: the challenge of coming up against different wingers, their different qualities and what I need to do against them. I enjoy the analysis side of it and the different approaches. Also, the way we play, and in football now generally, a left-back and midfielder can be quite similar. The education I’ve had as a midfielder is definitely helping me now.”
Lewis-Skelly has, of course, been seen at left-back more often than not this season, but throughout his career, including youth level, he’s played much more football in midfield.

Who knows? Perhaps Lewis-Skelly could end up moving back centrally eventually. After all, Riccardo Calafiori is there to play at left-back if needed.
