Manchester United v Arsenal is one of the biggest fixtures in the English football calendar, with both sides having enjoyed some titanic tussles over the years.

However, there is now some disparity between the two teams, making the Gunners favourites ahead of the Red Devils this Sunday.

While Arsenal have been in the Premier League title picture for three years in a row, Man United are 14th in the table.

Prior to Tuesday night, Arsenal weren’t great in front of goal since losing most of their forwards to injury.

However, this changed when the Gunners went to PSV Eindhoven for their Champions League last-16 first leg and ran out 7-1 winners over the hosts.

Man United fans may have previously been optimistic about their side’s chances against Arsenal’s depleted front line, but that’s no longer the case.

One fan wrote on X: “So after 45 with 10 men, then 120 mins in a loss, we play a final Thursday followed by an Arsenal squad that just won 7-1 & have 2 more days rest. Cool beans.”

Another said: “Arsenal are gonna obliterate United. Putting 7 past a team without a striker. United can’t even score with their strikers. F—.”

More fans voiced their concern, with one saying: “Arsenal deciding to score 7 before they play us, I’m just tired.”

Another sarcastically wrote: “Oh good, glad Arsenal are struggling for goals prior to their trip to Old Trafford this weekend.”

Another said: “Arsenal will have a field day vs my Utd team on Sunday. We are struggling to score goals, we are slow on the ball.”

Manchester United icon Wayne Rooney admitted that Arsenal ace Ethan Nwaneri is an “incredible” talent after the PSV clash.

“I thought Ethan Nwaneri was incredible,” he said on Amazon Prime Sports.

“At 17 years old, to play in the knockout stages of the Champions League, to show his flair, his ability, his willingness to get shots off, I thought he was fantastic.”

How Man United have fared against Arsenal over the years

Man United and Arsenal have faced off 242 times over the years, with the first fixture coming all the way back in 1894.

On 13 October 1894, Newton Heath played out a 3-3 draw against Woolwich Arsenal in the Second Division, with 4,000 watching the game at Bank Street in Clayton.

The Red Devils have won 102 contests and lost 90 to Arsenal, while 50 have resulted in draws.

Man United and Arsenal have faced off 11 times since the turn of the decade, with the Red Devils winning three, losing seven and drawing one.

Their last encounter resulted in a Red Devils victory as they overcame Arsenal on penalties after a 1-1 draw in their FA Cup third-round clash at the Emirates Stadium.
