Alisson Becker produced what might be his greatest performance in a Liverpool shirt during his side’s 1-0 victory against Paris Saint-Germain in the first leg of the Champions League Round of 16.
On the night, Liverpool were far inferior to PSG — with the hosts showing the world why they are one of the best teams in Europe.
Luis Enrique’s side created chances for fun and dazzled for much of the game, with their devastating front three of Bradley Barcola, Ousmane Dembele and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia coming to the party.
But Arne Slot had the last laugh as Liverpool managed to beat PSG and aside from Harvey Elliott, the main reason why that was the case was due to Alisson’s brilliance.
Arne Slot says he’s never worked with a goalkeeper on Alisson’s level after PSG vs Liverpool
The Brazilian international made save after save and kept the Reds in the game and after was even more remarkable to witness was how almost every stop was better than the last.
From Alisson’s miraculous save to keep Kvaratskhelia’s close-range attempt at bay with a strong right hand or how he stopped Barcola when the Frenchman was handed a one-on-one chance by making himself big — the former Roma goalkeeper was simply impregnable on Wednesday.
After Liverpool’s dramatic win against PSG, Arne Slot admitted that he has never worked with a goalkeeper of the ilk of Alisson during his career.
Slot told TNT Sports: “No, I don’t think I’ve ever worked with a goalkeeper that has played at this level, which is normal because he’s the best in the world.”
“So, I had some very good players as a manager but never the best goalkeeper in the world and that I think he is, he showed that today.”
What were Alisson’s stats for Liverpool against PSG?
Stephen Warnock described Alisson as “exceptional” against PSG and it is hard to disagree with him.
Nine times out of 10, Elliott’s late goal would have inconsequential had the Champions League winner not been at his brilliant best.
But Alisson certainly was against PSG and the statistics back up how outstanding the Liverpool number one was.
