Jamie Carragher left his seat on the CBS Sports set after Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson hinted that he had followed Arsenal as a youngster.
The Reds stopper was interviewed by several media outlets off the back of his stunning performance against Paris Saint-Germain on Wednesday, and his chat with CBS Sports was conducted in the show’s trademark light-hearted manner.
Carragher, as usual, was joined by Kate Scott, Thierry Henry and Micah Richards in the studio, and Richards prompted an admission from Alisson when he asked the Liverpool goalkeeper who his favorite member of the panel was.
Alisson plumped for Henry, describing him as a “legend” and saying: “When I was growing up, I watched a lot of Arsenal, it was early 2000s when he was playing. It was the only team mainly that was shown on TV in Brazil.”
Carragher and Richards got up from their chairs and walked to the other side of the studio in response to Alisson picking Henry as his favorite member of the CBS panel.
Earlier on in the interview, it was put to the 32-year-old that the nine saves he made is the highest amount by any Liverpool goalkeeper in a Champions League game since Opta records began over 20 years.
He responded: “To be honest, stats are really good to show a part of the game, but there were so many actions today where I had to be on my toes to help the team. Also sometimes when you give away so many chances it looks like you are working badly defensively, but the biggest amount of chances they had, always we had one player trying to block the shot, which makes the goalkeeper’s shot a little bit easier.”
Carragher then described Alisson’s performance as the greatest goalkeeping display he had ever seen and Alisson responded: “These moments are what we like to live in football. I always dreamed to be playing in a big club in Europe, playing Champions League, coming here playing against PSG with a performance like that. It’s really special for me, my kids were watching, and it was special for this club and the supporters. I always try to give 100 per cent but not often do I have to make nine saves. I will enjoy tonight and this performance.”
