Liverpool somehow won 1-0 against PSG in the Champions League with Harvey Elliott scoring a late winner and Alisson Becker putting in perhaps the best performance of his life.
Arne Slot’s side’s exceptional season looks set to continue and if that isn’t a good reason to join Liverpool in the summer, then what is? The Reds are on the up but will be on the hunt for reinforcements when the summer market opens.
Here is the Liverpool.com verdict on the transfer gossip to emerge around the Reds today. We begin with a Premier League center-back who is also drawing interest from La Liga.
Dean Huijsen (Bournemouth)
Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid have joined the race for Bournemouth defender Dean Huijsen, according to TBR Football. The Spanish center-back, signed from Juventus last summer, has a $65m (£50m/€60m) release clause and has been linked with Liverpool as well. William Saliba and Ibrahima Konate have both been linked with Real Madrid recently but Huijsen would be much more attainable.
The 19-year-old is not the only Bournemouth player who could be on the move after a sensational season under Andoni Iraola. Milos Kerkez, the Hungarian left-back, is also drawing the interest of several clubs around Europe.
Liverpool.com says: Arne Slot is not short of numbers at the back but Huijsen is a hugely exciting prospect who appears likely to be on the move this summer. If the Reds are keen, it might be now or never.
Alexander Isak (Newcastle United)
Newcastle United has so far refused to place a price tag on the head of Swedish striker Alexander Isak because it does not want to cash in on the player in the summer. He still has more than three years remaining on his contract amid links with Liverpool and Arsenal.
And Newcastle CEO Darren Eales has fired a transfer warning to any interested parties. “The reality is that all of our players are under long-term deals,” Eales said. “They’re committed to the club.
“So, from that perspective, we’re not looking to move any player on. We’ve got that wish and desire to keep our key players [and] we’re not under the gun [to sell] or anything like that. We’ve got an ownership that is ambitious [and] wants the best for the club so from that perspective, it’d be crazy for us to consider it.”
Liverpool.com says: Isak feels like an unlikely addition at Anfield (or at the Emirates Stadium, for that matter) simply because of the cost. He has been sensational this season but if Newcastle finishes in the Champions League spots, it is highly unlikely to entertain bids.
