Tottenham Hotspur travel to the Netherlands on Thursday evening to face AZ Alkmaar in the Europa League Round of 16 first-leg.

Ange Postecoglou’s side have already defeated the Dutch side this term having beaten them 1-0 back in October with Richarlison’s penalty proving to be the only goal of the game.

Now, speaking ahead of the two sides meeting against, Parrott has been discussing Spurs’ struggles this term and let slip something which may concern supporters.

Troy Parrott claims Tottenham’s focus is always on the top four

Troy Parrott has revealed that during his time at Tottenham the focus was always on making the top four in order to qualify for the Champions League.

The 23-year-old also discussed the club’s struggles this season and how he expects the club will be disappointed how the campaign is going.

Speaking ahead of the game, Parrott told the media: “I’m sure it’s disappointing for everyone there.

“When I was there, the focus was always the top four and being at the top of the table.

“I think looking from the outside, because I’m not in there anymore, it looks like there’s a disappointment there.”

Troy Parrott’s top four comments prove Tottenham’s culture is all wrong

Of course, qualifying for the Champions League would be great for the fans and of huge benefit to the club, however, Parrott’s comments just expose the subconscious thinking at the club that finishing in the top four alone is good enough.

As has been well documented this season, Daniel Levy has now been in charge for 24 years and during that time he’s won just one trophy.

Tottenham fans’ unrest towards Levy stems from the feeling that there is no real desire to end their 17-year wait for silverware.

Being in the Champions League would aid that as it helps bring in more money to buy bigger name players, however, Spurs have failed to capitalise on this when they’ve been in Europe’s elite competition.

Unfortunately, Parrott claiming, ‘The focus was always the top four’ just shows how the culture in N17 is all wrong and why the club have struggled to truly believe they can end their wait for a trophy.
