Arsenal lineup vs. Man United: Predicted XI for Premier League clash as Mikel Arteta faces defensive dilemma

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta arguably only has one selection dilemma to solve for Sunday’s Premier League headline act with Manchester United at Old Trafford.

The Gunners hit the road again on the back of a 7-1 thumping of PSV Eindhoven in the first leg of their Champions League last-16 battle, where they were fortunate not to see Myles Lewis-Skelly dismissed for two bookable offences.

Immediately after the English teenager was let off with a warning for his second offence, Arteta took him off for Riccardo Calafiori, whose predatory instincts came to the fore again as he capped off the scoring in Eindhoven.

However, as Lewis-Skelly relishes big occasions such as this one, Arteta should persist with the Hale End graduate, who will likely comprise part of an unchanged lineup on Sunday afternoon.

Arsenal’s six-goal lead over PSV gives them scope to rotate for the second leg, so for the time being, Jurrien Timber, William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes will reprise their roles in front of David Raya.

Captain Martin Odegaard has a lot to live up to after Tuesday’s man-of-the-match performance, and the Norwegian will no doubt occupy a central role with Declan Rice and Thomas Partey again.

Alongside the effervescent Ethan Nwaneri and makeshift striker Mikel Merino up front, Leandro Trossard could become just the third Arsenal player after Emmanuel Adebayor and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to score in successive Premier League games at Old Trafford after netting the winner there last season.

Arsenal possible starting lineup:
Raya; Timber, Saliba, Gabriel, Lewis-Skelly; Odegaard, Partey, Rice; Nwaneri, Merino, Trossard
