Ally McCoist says he’s had enough of one thing in football during Nottingham Forest vs Man City

McCoist is commentating on Nottingham Forest vs Manchester City for TNT Sports.

Ally McCoist lost patience with one thing about football while commentating on Nottingham Forest’s Premier League clash against Manchester City.

Forest are hosting City at the City Ground as they look to take one step closer towards qualifying for next season’s Champions League.

The Nottinghamshire club haven’t played in Europe’s top competition since it was known as the European Cup back in the 1980/81 season.

During the first half, Forest midfielder Morgan Gibbs-White was shown a yellow card for upending Jeremy Doku as he looked to start a City counter-attack.

Forest had several defenders on the cover but referee Chris Kavanagh deemed the offence to be serious enough to warrant what appeared to be a relatively standard caution.

As replays were shown on TNT Sports, co-commentator McCoist was asked by Darren Fletcher to give his thoughts on the decision – and he took the opportunity to call out a trait of modern football.

He said: “It was just a foul – calm down!

“Everything’s a yellow card these days. Everything! What happened to a foul? I’ve got that off my chest.”

When play resumed, though, McCoist did quietly concede: “Okay, it might have been a yellow card…”

There was another flashpoint in the first half when Forest’s Elliot Anderson avoided a straight red card for a studs-up challenge on Phil Foden.

The midfielder won the ball but his momentum meant he followed through, and his boot connected hard against the thigh area of the England international.

On that incident, McCoist said: “Yes, he does follow through. There’s a little bit of a follow-through, I don’t think there’s any doubt about it.

“I think he’s lucky not to hurt himself, I genuinely do. I get where Joleon [Lescott, in the studio] is coming from, but I don’t think it’s anything more than what was required.”
