Rangers are currently without a permanent manager after the Scottish Premiership club parted company with Philippe Clement in February.

Ibrox cult hero Barry Ferguson is currently in charge of the Rangers first-team until the end of the season.

Meanwhile, Gerrard has been linked with a return to Ibrox, having done well in his first stint in charge of the Gers.

TBR Football chief correspondent Graeme Bailey can reveal that Rangers’ prospective new investors are keen on bringing Gerrard back to the club.

A deal between Rangers and the United States-based investors has been agreed in principle.

There is growing confidence on all sides that it could be completed by the end of the season.

The deal involves a consortium led by former banker Andrew Cavenagh, and will be backed with funding via Paraag Marathe.

He manages the investment arm of the San Francisco 49ers, who have already taken on Leeds United in British football.

Whilst the 49ers are not directly taking over Ibrox as they did at Elland Road, Cavenagh is working closely with Marathe.

A new manager is one of the priorities and TBR Football understands that they are already assessing options, and one of them is Gerrard.

How Steven Gerrard fared at Rangers

Rangers appointed Gerrard in May 2018 after a tumultuous season that saw them part company with both Pedro Caixinha and interim coach Graeme Murty.

Gerrard embarked on a major rebuild and it was clear that things were heading in the right direction.

The likes of Glen Kamara, Jermain Defoe, Steven Davis Jordan Jones, Joe Aribo, Filip Helander, Ryan Kent, Calvin Bassey, Leon Balogun and Kemar Roofe all joined under his watch.

Then, in 2020/21, Rangers finally triumphed in the Scottish Premiership, winning their first title since the 2020/11 season and depriving Celtic of a 10th title in a row.

Gerrard spent three-and-half years at Ibrox up to November 2021 when he left for Aston Villa, and during his stint, he lost just 26 of his 193 games with the Gers.

The 44-year-old is currently without a club after leaving Saudi Arabian outfit Al-Ettifaq.
