Manchester United have had several exceptional players over the years.

The Red Devils are the most successful side in the history of English football, and some of the players who have donned the famous red shirt were absolute superstars.

Sir Alex Ferguson played a key part in signing and developing many of the iconic players who are associated with Manchester United.

A few of them are very popular names even today.

One such player has now rated himself against some of the biggest names world football has ever seen.

Wayne Rooney says he was better than Harry Kane, Neymar and six other superstars

Wayne Rooney is arguably Manchester United’s greatest ever player.

The Englishman spent 13 years at Old Trafford and was absolutely outstanding there. He played a huge part in helping the Red Devils win all the major trophies.

Rooney left Manchester United in 2017 on a free transfer to Everton, and it feels like many people of this generation are ignoring just how good a player he was.

The United icon doesn’t always get the recognition he deserves during debates about the best strikers in the history of the Premier League.

So, Rooney has taken it upon himself to tell the world how highly he rates himself when compared to some other huge names.

In a video on the Champions League’s official social channels, Rooney picked himself over Tottenham legend Harry Kane and Brazil icon Neymar.

He also put himself higher than Luis Suarez, Alessandro Del Piero, Robert Lewandowski, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Erling Haaland and Sergio Aguero.

Wayne Rooney’s stats compared to Harry Kane and Neymar

Rooney is a legend of the game, but the likes of Kane and Neymar will go down as all-time greats too when they hang up their boots.

But, how do their stats at club level compare against the Manchester United legend?

Games Goals Assists Trophies
Wayne Rooney 763 313 163 17
Harry Kane 579 371 89 0
Neymar 598 363 223 28
(Correct as of March 7, 2025)

Rooney ranks above Kane thanks to his splendid assists tally and the trophies he has won, but Neymar is arguably the best of them all.

However, more than half of the Brazilian’s games were in his home country, France or Saudi Arabia, where the level of competition is nowhere near as high as the Premier League.

So, Rooney may just be right – he is better than both Kane and Neymar!
