Ange Postecoglou suggests Tottenham fans did something which made 2-2 draw vs Bournemouth harder

Tottenham failed to impress against Bournemouth despite fighting back from a 2-0 deficit.

Spurs showed everybody why they languish 13th in the Premier League with a sloppy display against the Cherries – who really ought to have been three or four goals ahead before Pape Sarr got Tottenham back into the game.

Even before Bournemouth made it 2-0 in the 65th minute, loud boos could be heard from inside the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, with Spurs fans clearly unhappy about the level of performance right now.

Speaking after the final whistle, Ange Postecoglou did not exactly pin the result on Tottenham supporters – but he did suggest the sour atmosphere made life even tougher for his players.

What Ange Postecoglou said about the atmosphere at Tottenham

Speaking to Sky Sports, the 59-year-old said: “At 2-0 we had a bit of a mountain to climb. It was a chaotic game today and the boys showed a real mentality.

“It would have been really easy at 2-0 with the atmosphere in the stadium to let it slip away from us, but they fought hard and got themselves back in the game.”

If anything, you could argue the atmosphere motivated Tottenham to turn the game around, instead of the negative impact Postecoglou – who named a woeful midfield – is suggesting it had on Spurs players.

Ultimately, it was a dismal opening 45 minutes, and beyond, so Tottenham fans – who were recently enraged by an increase in ticket prices – are entitled to make their feelings known.

What Ange Postecoglou has criticised Tottenham fans for previously

It would not surprise us if Postecoglou was aiming a dig at Tottenham fans, as the man born in Greece has already, publicly, shown some dissatisfaction with Spurs supporters.

As you may recall, ahead of a Premier League clash against Manchester City last season, in which a win over the Citizens would have put bitter rivals Arsenal in pole position to win the title, fans upset the Aussie by showing a clear desire for Tottenham not to win the match.

In response, Postecoglou said: “I probably misread the situation as to what I think is important and the endeavour to become a winning team…other people, what their priorities and interests are, I have zero interest in – I know what’s important to build a winning team, and that’s what I want to concentrate on.

“It is what it is, I can’t dictate what people do.”

If AZ Alkmaar knock Tottenham out of the UEFA Europa League next week and effectively end their season, Postecoglou should expect many more miserable atmospheres in N17 between now and the summer.
