Liverpool are edging closer to the Premier League title after Arsenal were held to a 1-1 draw at Manchester United on Sunday.

When could Liverpool be confirmed as champions?Who could have to give Liverpool a Guard of Honour?

The Reds are now 15 points clear at the top of the Premier League – although the Gunners do still have a game in hand – after a freekick by Bruno Fernandes prevented Arsenal from winning at Old Trafford.

As a result, the narrative is now shifting towards when – not if – in regards to Liverpool winning the title, so let’s take a look at the earliest Arne Slot could officially become a Premier League winner.

When could Liverpool be confirmed as champions?

Liverpool could be confirmed as champions of England for a 20th time as early as April 20th.

If Arsenal lose their next three Premier League outings against Chelsea, Fulham and Everton – and Liverpool defeat Everton, Fulham, West Ham and Leicester – the Reds will officially be named champions after that clash against the Foxes.

Who could have to give Liverpool a Guard of Honour?

Traditionally, any club who faces the champions while the season is ongoing must give them a Guard of Honour – in which players line up either side as the victors emerge before games, applauding their achievement.

Should Liverpool – who are scouting Roger Fernandes – end up winning the Premier League against Leicester on April 20th, the following teams await Slot on the fixture list, and will be expected to give the Reds a Guard of Honour.

  • Tottenham
  • Chelsea
  • Arsenal
  • Brighton
  • Crystal Palace

In terms of the official trophy presentation, that will come at Anfield on Sunday 25th May against Crystal Palace – the final game of the campaign.

Should Arsenal actually end up giving Liverpool, who like Dean Huijsen, a Guard of Honour, it would truly be a humbling moment for the Gunners – but, one that could potentially motivate the north Londoners to go all the way next season.
