TBR Football understands that Manchester City watched Adam Wharton in action for Crystal Palace on Saturday as they continue to assess the England international.
Pep Guardiola’s side are huge admirers of Wharton and the Premier League champions were in attendance at Selhurst Park to see the 21-year-old start in Palace’s 1-0 win over Ipswich Town.
Wharton’s performances, which have been dubbed ‘really exciting by Alan Shearer, have seen him attract plenty of interest from other Premier League clubs.
But at this stage, Palace are eager to keep hold of him and are refusing to set a valuation which could make him very tricky to land in the summer.
Manchester City are considering summer bid for Adam Wharton
Manchester City making a summer bid for Adam Wharton cannot be ruled out, sources have confirmed to TBR Football chief correspondent Graeme Bailey.
Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool and Aston Villa are among the clubs who have also been watching him constantly since his move to South London.
But, Wharton now looks to have emerged as an option for Guardiola with City ready to continue the overhaul of their squad this summer.
But as mentioned, Palace are planning to put up a strong fight to keep the midfielder and TBR Football has been told that the Eagles are willing to offer him a substantial new contract.
Palace are facing up to the prospect of losing Marc Guehi and Eberechi Eze this summer, so whether they would consider Wharton’s exit too, remains to be seen.
Where could Marc Guehi and Eberechi Eze end up this summer?
Palace rejected an offer from Tottenham for Guehi on transfer deadline day, which TBR Football reported was believed to be around £70 million.
The defender is due to enter the final year of his contract in the summer, meaning the Eagles will likely need to sell him to avoid losing him for free.
Guehi has also been linked to Chelsea with Enzo Maresca considering making a move to bring the England international back to Stamford Bridge next summer.
Meanwhile, TBR Football understands that Tottenham are also keen on Eberechi Eze with Ange Postecoglou a big fan of the forward.
Manchester City, Liverpool and Arsenal have all been watching his situation closely too, the 26-year-old has a release clause in his contract worth over £60 million.
