It’s simple, really. At least for Harry Kane it is.
Harry Kane is more than just a penalty merchant. But make no mistake, a lot of work goes into becoming THAT automatic from the spot.
“Taking a penalty is nerve-wracking and you feel those nerves,” Kane described in recent comments captured by UEFA.com. “I try and take the pressure away by preparing well. Once I have that ball on the spot, I’m not thinking about anything else other than my preparation. I just focus on putting the ball down, my steps, my routine, and then, before you know it, it’s just about execution.
“There have been times I haven’t executed it well and I’ve missed penalties and, obviously, you have to accept that. But if I did the preparation that I want and train the way I want, I know that I’ll score more than I’ll miss and that gives me confidence, every time I take one.”
There have been times Kane hasn’t executed well? Hard to remember if you’re a Bayern fan. Kane has been as excellent at taking penalties as his teammates…and sometimes himself… have been at winning them. He showed it again in the Champions League win over Leverkusen, where he rocketed a shot after a stutter step with sudden strength no human being should have been able to muster.
