Arsenal will look to move back within 13 points of Liverpool at the top of the Premier League table after the Reds’ win over Southampton earlier in the weekend. The Gunners won 7-1 against PSV in the Champions League midweek.
Manchester United will be without Jonny Evans (lower back), Mason Mount (thigh), Luke Shaw (foot), Lisandro Martinez (torn ACL), Altay Bayindir (undisclosed), Patrick Dorgu (suspension), Kobbie Mainoo (undisclosed), and Amad Diallo (ankle). Center-back Harry Maguire and midfielder Manuel Ugarte are both doubts with minor issues.
Arsenal has numerous key injuries with Kai Havertz (hamstring), Gabriel Jesus (torn ACL), Bukayo Saka (hamstring), Takehiro Tomiyasu (knee), and Gabriel Martinelli (hamstring) all out. Mikel Arteta’s side won 1-0 at Old Trafford last season but lost in the two campaigns prior to that.
In the UK, the game will be live on Sky Sports in the earlier Sunday slot. It will also be available to stream via the Sky GO app or on Now TV. In the US, the match is set to be shown on NBC Sports and via the Peacock service.
“We need to survive Sunday,” Ruben Amorim said in his pre-match press conference. “The team was so tired in the last 20 minutes. We have to prepare for Sunday and then think about this important game in our season on Thursday. But, in this moment, I don’t know.
“Everybody can start. If they are training tomorrow [Friday], if they played today [Thursday], they can be ready. Chido is on the list, so he can play. We are trying to see all the players that are fresh and that are not in danger of getting an injury. Even that, we have to risk a little but we have to be competitive on Sunday.”
Meanwhile, Arteta said ahead of the game: “We need to look at threats from all areas. We lost very important wingers that were providing a lot for us in that final third and we’re looking to explore other options as well.
“The team has this capacity to adapt, we have a lot of players with great football intelligence to understand when to move and why, especially to do certain things. The other day certainly flowed and we saw actions and combinations that are very difficult to defend.”
