Leon Goretzka acknowledges Bayern Munich did not manage the game well following red card

Going down to 10 men is a game state a team like Bayern should be handling better.

Bayern Munich were cruising to a victory against VfL Bochum in the first half, racking up a two goal lead and blowing a penalty. Sure, the opponents scored to reduce the deficit but it was a fortuitous chance originating from a lucky bounce and it was their only shot.

Until the red card for João Palhinha, that is. The 10 men of Bayern went on to collapse and lost the game 3-2. But it was understandable because the team went down to 10 men, right?

Well, no. Leon Goretzka, the only holdover in the starting lineup from the midweek 3-0 win against Bayer Leverkusen in the Champions League, admitted that the team could and should have handled the situation better.

“We started very well, had everything under control and took the lead. With the red card we opened the door for the opponent. As a team we didn’t manage to correct the mistake today, the former Bochum player said, as captured by @iMiaSanMia. “We have to react properly. Some of us are a bit angry and that usually never does us any harm.”

It really is all about channeling that anger correctly. Will a positive application of that anger be seen in the second leg against Leverkusen on Tuesday? Or will that anger cause the team to get sloppy?
