It feels like the clock is ticking on Harry Kane’s tenure with Bayern Munich

Bayern Munich star striker Harry Kane has a contract that runs through the 2026/27 season, but recent news of a release clause has many people thinking that the Englishman will return to the island in the summer of 2026 (assuming he wins at least one trophy in the next two seasons).

Kane is such an important part of what Bayern Munich’s built around, how will the club recover? Well, per Sport Bild’s Christian Falk in his Daily Briefing column, Sporting CP’s Viktor Gyökeres and RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Šeško are atop the club’s wish list.

Will the two strikers be around that long? Most expect both players to make big money transfers this summer, but Bayern Munich might have an idea that could entice them — a one-year apprenticeship under Kane before the 31-year-old heads home:

True✅: Bayern Munich remain interested in Viktor Gyökeres. Bayern doesn’t have so much money at the moment for transfers, but they know they need a substitute for Harry Kane. They’ve only got one striker and no one really knows if Thomas Müller will be playing next season. So, one striker wouldn’t be enough, which is why they have a list. Gyökeres is on the list, as is Benjamin Šeško.

However, they have to sell some players. In this case, they hope Tottenham will be keen to pay the €60m transfer fee for Mathys Tel. If that happens, they’d be prepared to make a move for another striker, and potentially this would be Gyökeres. That all said, it’s worth pointing out that Bayern haven’t yet decided he’s their No.1 target; there are a few strikers on the list that are of interest. If Bayern get €60m for Tel, a move would be possible for Šeško, for instance, who’s valued at €70m.

It is questionable that either player would accept such a role after being established starters, but it is not wholly inconceivable. A transfer and a one-year loan could also be an option for a true successor to Kane, but that is a bridge that will be crossed if the situation becomes relevant.

This is also not the first time that we have seen these two specific names as possibilities for Bayern Munich’s next striker. Gyökeres and Šeško were both candidates to replace Kane in January if his release clause was activated.
