That comes at a bad time for them. Get well soon.
Bayern Munich’s 2-3 loss to VFL Bochum with a rotated side was frustrating for many different reasons, but one redeeming factor is that the lead in the Bundesliga did not shrink despite the loss. Bayern have Werder Bremen to thank for that, who managed a 0-2 away victory over Bayer Leverkusen, breaking a run of 4 consecutive losses to do so.
Die Werkself also looked to rotate the side ahead of their Champions League second leg against Bayern on Tuesday, but the 0-1 deficit at half time forced Xabi Alonso to rotate. Surprisingly, Granit Xhaka and Edmond Tapsoba were two of the three players subbed off at half time as the likes of Florian Wirtz, Nordi Mukiele and Ezequiel Palacios came on instead. Disaster then struck for Leverkusen as Wirtz suffered an injury that forced him to leave the stadium via crutches.
But the injury news would be even worse than expected, via a report from kicker (as captured by @iMiaSanMia). It seems Xhaka and Tapsoba’s substitutions were due to injury issues as well:
In addition to Florian Wirtz, Xhaka and Tapsoba were also subbed off with ‘some problems’, says Xabi Alonso. ‘We have to wait and see’, says the Spaniard ahead of Tuesday’s return leg against Bayern.
Remember, there are only three days between the game vs Werder Bremen and the one against Bayern in the Champions League. Can the two really shake off their injury worries in that short a time frame? Hopefully, the two will not be out for long.
