Bayern Munich might be more active than first thought this summer…
Bayern likes Huijsen, focused in on Wirtz, backup for Kane (@Plettigoal)
According to a report from Sky Sport journalist Florian Plettenberg, Bayern Munich finds Bournemouth center-back Dean Huijsen to be “interesting”, which we kind of already knew.
However, with that report, it does disclose why Bayern Munich might not be able to afford Huijsen, whose release clause is roughly €60 million. Per Plettenberg, Bayern Munich is pushing to get Florian Wirtz this summer and a backup to Harry Kane:
FC Bayern consider Dean #Huijsen a very interesting centre-back and have gathered information about him.
However, nothing is concrete at the moment. He is not a specific target for the summer yet, mainly because he is currently too expensive and Bayern have other priorities: Wirtz, one or two new wingers, and a backup for Kane.
The 19-y/o Huijsen has a release clause in his contract at Bournemouth, worth £50m, as per @FabrizioRomano
The Kane backup is interesting because that seems to indicate that Mathys Tel will be sold — and that the club is ready to make at least a somewhat large investment in that type of player. Is Bayern Munich going to seriously go after Sporting CP’s Viktor Gyökeres and RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Šeško to be Kane’s understudy?
It seems unlikely that players of that ilk would be willing to punt a season in their respective careers. One name to potentially keep an eye on, who is much cheaper, is West Ham United’s Niclas Füllkrug.
Güler on Eintracht’s radar (@Plettigoal)
With Arda Güler reportedly unhappy at Real Madrid, Eintracht Frankfurt could offer him a soft landing in Germany:
Eintracht Frankfurt are closely monitoring the situation of Arda #Güler.
#SGE are aware that the 20-y/o top talent is not entirely satisfied with his playing time at Real Madrid. While nothing is concrete yet, Frankfurt have the Turkish international on their list for the upcoming summer. As first via @AxelHesse1 and confirmed.
But Eintracht’s current top candidate for the right wing, if financially feasible, remains Ritsu #Doan from SC Freiburg.
Bavarian Podcast Works — Flagship Show: Season 7, Episode 33 (Bavarian Football Works)
Bayern Munich took a weekend loss, but that is not at the forefront of mind for most fans.
A flukey result majorly impacted by a red card allowed many fans to grant Bayern Munich a mulligan on the final score — mostly because there are bigger fish to fry this week. In addition, in a weekend rife with upsets in the Bundesliga, the loss to VfL Bochum did not end up hurting Bayern Munich too much in the league table.
Let’s get into our slate of topics. This is what we have on tap for this episode:
- Unpacking Bayern Munich’s loss to VfL Bochum. Big deal? An anomaly? Just the cost of doing business with a condensed schedule?
- What does €80 million buy you these days? Maybe not much.
- Where do things stand ahead of the Champions League match vs. Bayer Leverkusen.
- Joshua Kimmich’s saga appears to be coming to an end. Were there winners and losers or did this finish up in a good way for everyone?
Who was Bayern scouting at LFC? (The Hard Tackle)
Sport Bild journalist Christian recently declared that Bayern Munich did not have interest in Liverpool FC defender Virgil van Dijk.
However, other reports are indicating that Bayern Munich had scouts at Liverpool’s match against Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League last week:
A host of clubs, including Real Madrid and Bayern Munich, had observers watching Virgil van Dijk in action for Liverpool against PSG.
According to TBR, Virgil van Dijk could have multiple suitors when the summer window opens, as his Liverpool future looks highly uncertain. Real Madrid and Bayern Munich had observers in Paris to watch the defender in action against PSG, as Liverpool are keen to keep hold of the key man and skipper.
Bayern Munich, on the other hand, poses a significant threat to any big club in the market, as they, too, are eager to find a way to sign the experienced Dutchman and Liverpool skipper. In any case, it’s still not clear whether those clubs have made any offers for the defender, as this story has all the hallmarks to become a big one as the summer window edges closer.

Assuming Falk’s information is correct and that Bayern Munich is actually not scouting Van Dijk or Mo Salah…who would it from Liverpool or PSG?
Surely, there are possibilities, but who? Liverpool’s Cody Gakpo? PSG’s Désiré Doué or Bradley Barcola?
Eintracht eyeing Stach (@Plettenberg)
Eintracht Frankfurt has become a club known for developing (and selling) young players, but reinvesting the money to help make a better, deeper, overall squad.
After having already sold Omar Marmoush and with Hugo Ekitike also generating interest, Eintracht Frankfurt could turn its attention to Hoffenheim defensive midfielder Anton Stach:
TSG Hoffenheim want to keep Anton #Stach in the summer but are aware of interest from several clubs.
The asking price for a summer transfer is between €15-20m. Stach is under contract until 2027. Eintracht Frankfurt are among the clubs interested in the two-time German international. #SGE
Bavarian Podcast Works — Postgame Show: Bayern Munich 2-3 VfL Bochum (Bavarian Football Works)
Bayern Munich were stunned at home on their 125th anniversary celebration. In a match with lots of rotation, the drop in quality was evident. Despite some impressive individual performances, squad cohesion was a clear problem, and individual errors, including a harsh red card on Pahlinha. Most importantly though, Bayern Munich remain 8 points ahead of Bayer Leverkusen and came out injury-free.
- A look at the starting XI and our thoughts on the rotation.
- A rundown of the scoring and substitutions.
- Some final thoughts and takeaways on the match.
Eberl weighs in on Müller’s limited role moving forward (Sport Bild via @iMiaSanMia)
When asked about the statements made recently by Uli Hoeneß that Thomas Müller should retire rather than be a deep substitute, Bayern Munich board member for sport Max Eberl said that the topic is not even really an issue at this point.
“I had already said that the conversation with Thomas would be the shortest of all: you don’t need to have any big discussions with him about perspectives or anything like that. The important thing is that we make a decision together that is best for everyone. Thomas Müller is an icon of FC Bayern. It’s about his thoughts, how he imagines his role, as well as our thoughts. And of course you always have to take the financial side into account in such a topic. There was a conversation at the end of last year, and we will continue that. With Thomas, we’re taking the conversations out of crunch time,” Eberl told Christian Falk and Tobi Altschäffl.
City still eyeing Hernandez (ESPN)
Manchester City could be in the market for AC Milan left-back Theo Hernandez, who we all know will not be cheap to obtain:
AC Milan left-back Theo Hernández is a possible transfer target for Man City, reports TeamTalk. The 27-year-old is about to move into the final year of his contract and there’s no sign of an extension. Serie A rivals Como agreed a €50m fee for the France international in January, but the player rejected the move hoping for a bigger switch at the end of the season. AC Milan could target 23-year-old Wolverhampton Wanderers left-back Rayan Aït-Nouri as a potential replacement, reports Gazzetta dello Sport.
