Several notable figures in football offer their thoughts on Bayern.
Bayern Munich’s 125th anniversary was a big event for the club, celebrating the club’s rich history. But the club’s birthday was not just acknowledged by the club or the fans; instead, several powerful figures in football commented on the club on the eve of the anniversary.
Josep Guardiola, who of course coached the club from 2013-2016, expressed his pride at being part of the Bayern family:
“It was a privilege and an honour for me to be coach of FC Bayern,” the former FC Barcelona manager said, as captured by @iMiaSanMia. “This club, with its 125-year history, with unique personalities such as Franz Beckenbauer, Uli Hoeneß and Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, with this heart and passion, on and off the pitch, is one of the greatest in the world. The fans can be proud of their FC Bayern, just as I am proud to feel part of the Bayern family. Congratulations on this special birthday and on a great past that is an inspiration for the future.”
Real Madrid president Florentino Perez congratulated Bayern and noted the “close and friendly relationship” he has with Bayern’s management:
“On behalf of Real Madrid, I would like to congratulate FC Bayern on this special anniversary. 125 years of club history is an impressive milestone that underlines the size and importance of one of the most prestigious clubs in the world. Bayern Munich stands for passion, success and tradition – values that unite us in football. We are proud that our clubs have created so many unforgettable moments that are an integral part of European football history,” the long time president of Los Merengues said, as captured by @iMiaSanMia. “Since 2000, as president of Real Madrid, I have been able to maintain a close and friendly relationship with the management of FC Bayern. This extraordinary exchange and shared values are what make our partnership so special. On the occasion of the 125th anniversary, I would like to express my admiration and respect to FC Bayern – for your legendary history and your contribution to making football such a valued sport around the world.”
And José Mourinho spoke about a 0-0 draw he witnessed nearly half a decade ago:
“My first contact with Bayern was in 1976, when I watched a 0-0 match between Benfica and Bayern with my father in the stands of the Estádio da Luz – and was able to see legends like Sepp Maier, Franz Beckenbauer and Gerd Müller live,” the multiple Champions League winning manager explained, as captured by @iMiaSanMia. “Later, I had the great privilege of playing against FC Bayern with four clubs: with Chelsea, in the unforgettable 2010 final in Madrid with Inter, then with Real Madrid and most recently with Tottenham. I remember great games and fascinating stories – and always the exceptional class of this club. I have always admired Bayern, its players and the people in charge with the greatest respect. All the best for the future.”
