Shock development in Man City 115 charges case as Premier League told to brace for ‘carnage’

A massive development in Manchester City’s ongoing 115 charges case has led to one official warning the Premier League to prepare for ‘carnage.’

Back in February, the Premier League accused City of 115 breaches of financial rules, a claim that the club vehemently deny.

The official hearing into the allegations began in September, but the official verdict from the independent panel is yet to be released.

However, a new report has revealed a massive development in the case, leading to an official warning being sent to the Premier League.

Initially, City were accused of 115 breaches of the Premier League’s financial rules, but it has since be reported that the reigning champions could now be facing up to 130 charges.

But now, a report from The i Paper has claimed that, should City be found to have committed one or more of the most serious breaches that they are accused of, the remaining Premier League clubs could be left with a decision regarding their future in the competition.

As it stands, the exact punishment or punishments that City could receive isn’t entirely clear, and it is unknown whether the Independent Commission would be able to disregard the Premier League’s rulebook and expel City from the league.

If not, then the only way City could be kicked out of the Premier League would be if the panel were to make a recommendation that would then be put to the other clubs in a special meeting of shareholders.

Explaining the situation, Aaryaman Banjeri, head of football governance at Lane Clark & Peacock told The i Paper: “Rule B6 of the Premier League’s Handbook stipulates that, in order to trigger the expulsion of one of its members, clubs would have to vote as part of a Special Resolution.

“This would require 15 clubs to vote in favour of expulsion. It will be instructive to see whether the Independent Commission is held to this requirement, or whether this might be worked around, so that the Commission can itself impose such a sanction.”

However, if City were to win the case and defeat all 130 of the charges, then one Premier League executive has warned that it could lead to “carnage” within the whole competition.

“I don’t think the roof comes in straight away or anything, but it significantly weakens the Premier League’s hand on the rules. Would the whole financial fair play edifice be next?” the executive asked.
