Sir Jim Ratcliffe name drops five as he says Man Utd players are ‘not good enough and overpaid’

Manchester United Sir Jim Ratcliffe has called out five current players saying that they are ‘not good enough’ and ‘overpaid.’

Since completing his deal to taking over as minority owner of Manchester United, INEOS boss Ratcliffe has had to endure the worst spell in the club’s history.

As it stands, United are 14th in the Premier League table, putting them on track for their worst finish since the competition was founded in 1992.

And now, Ratcliffe has spoken out to address the issues at the club, as he has named five current players as part of the problem.

One of the biggest pieces of criticism that Ratcliffe has faced since his arrival is how the club is being financed under his leadership.

This has led to him addressing this very issue in a bombshell interview with BBC Sport.

“If you look at the players we are buying this summer, that we didn’t buy, we’re buying Antony, we’re buying Casemiro, we’re buying Onana, we’re buying Hojlund, we’re buying Sancho.” said Ratcliffe.

“These are all things from the past, whether we like it or not, we’ve inherited those things and have to sort that out.

“For Sancho, who now plays for Chelsea and we pay half his wages, we’re paying £17m to buy him in the summer.”

“It takes time for us to move away from the past into a new place in the future,” Ratcliffe said.

When asked further if his comments meant that these five players were not good enough for Manchester United, Ratcliffe added: “Some are not good enough and some probably are overpaid, but for us to mould the squad that we are fully responsible for, and accountable for, will take time.

“We’ve got this period of transformation where we move from the past to the future.

“There are some great players in the squad as we know, the captain is a fabulous footballer. We definitely need Bruno, he’s a fantastic footballer.”

All five of the players called out by Ratcliffe during the bombshell interview have struggled during their time at United, with some fans questioning why they are still playing for the club.

Like Sancho, winger Antony is currently on loan with La Liga side Real Betis having failed to impress since arriving at Old Trafford from Ajax as part of an following an £81.5m move in 2022.

Of all of the names listed by the INEOS chairman, Casemiro has potentially attracted the most criticism lately as he struggles to find his place in the starting lineup despite his £350,000 a week salary.
