He may come up against his former club in the UCL final
For a long time, it seemed that David Alaba would stay at Bayern Munich for his entire career. Emerging from Bayern’s academy, he became a club icon after spending over an entire decade at the club, reaching three Champions League finals, winning a treble as well as a sextuple in a phenomenal career. But then Real Madrid came calling amid stalling contract negotiations with Bayern and the Austrian simply could not say no to the new challenge.
Now in Madrid, Alaba has won a further two Champions League titles but has suffered through injury problems, most recently an anterior cruciate ligament injury. Now he is regaining full fitness, however, in time for the crucial stretch of the Champions League. Placed on opposite sides of the bracket this time, Madrid and Bayern could meet in the UCL final in Munich as a recovered Alaba lines up against Bayern. What a story that would be.
The former Austria Vienna academy player believes the match would be exciting indeed: “Both teams still have several stages to go through. But Bayern are also a contender for the title in the Champions League this year. Bayern against Real in Munich – that would be an exciting match.”
Having of course experienced the Champions League final in Munich-though unfortunately having to sit out through suspension- would it not be interesting to see Alaba make it to the second final in Munich, only to line up in white instead of red?
