‘It’s great’: Ian Wright reacts after hearing behind-the-scenes news coming out of Arsenal

Arsenal’s Premier League dreams appear to be done and dusted for another season.

Indeed, the title race looks like it’s over after Arsenal have failed to win any of their last three league games and Liverpool have now pulled clear at the top of the table.

However, it’s not all doom and gloom for Arsenal at the moment.

Arsenal have made a very interesting move behind-the-scenes this week as Andrea Berta has apparently agreed a deal to become the club’s new Sporting Director.

Edu resigned from Arsenal earlier this season, and Jason Ayto was in temporary charge.

Now, Berta is going to join the club from Atletico Madrid, and speaking on the Kelly and Wrighty Show, Ian Wright has shared his reaction to this appointment.

Ian Wright reacts to Andrea Berta appointment

Wright shared his verdict on Arsenal bringing Berta in.

The pundit says that he’s pleased with the appointment of Berta, stating that it’s also great that Jason Ayto isn’t being promoted, claiming that Mikel Arteta needs to hear a different voice.

‘Maybe Andrea Berta, I’m quite pleased he’s coming in now because he can really have a look at everything there and what’s going on,” Wright said.

“I think it’s great that they haven’t brought Jason Ayto up who was helping Edu. I think Mikel needs another voice, a voice of experience, and with Berta, he’s been at Atletico Madrid for 12 years, two La Ligas, two Champions League finals, he has the experience.

“Hopefully, he will have enough time and when the summer comes he can locate those players and get those players in as early as possible.”

Andrea Berta’s best signings

Berta has been at Atletico Madrid for a long time now, and, as Wright says, he’s helped take the club to two league titles and two Champions League finals.

You don’t do that without being a savvy businessman, and Berta has made some brilliant signings over the years.

Andrea Berta best signings for Atletico Madrid Fee
Jan Oblak £10m
Rodri £15m
Antoine Griezmann £25m
Jose Maria Gimenez £700k
Luis Suarez £7m

Berta already has his eye on a few additions at Arsenal.

Indeed, Berta is keen on Matheus Cunha from Wolves, while Kingsley Coman is another Berta target heading into the summer.

Of course, for a long time, Arsenal have wanted to sign Alexander Isak, and while that deal is going to be difficult, Berta would be making an immediate splash at the Emirates if he was able to get that deal done.
