Tottenham Hotspur have certainly seen a lot of midfielders come and go in north London over the years.
Ange Postecoglou is currently residing over a Tottenham midfield which could see significant changes in the summer itself.
Yves Bissouma is being linked with a Tottenham exit and Spurs are continually linked with the likes of Eberechi Eze at Crystal Palace.
Of course, Lucas Bergvall and Archie Gray will be hoping to have a long-term say in the middle for Tottenham, but there’s certainly still space for others to come in.
But throwing it back to those who attempted to improve things for Spurs in midfield in the past, Tottenham recruited promising Fulham midfielder Sean Davis back in 2006 when Martin Jol was in charge at the club.
Sean Davis says he regretted leaving Fulham for Tottenham
After a £3m move to north London, Davis only went on to make 20 appearances for Tottenham in all competitions before he was sold to Portsmouth for a loss.
Davis was on the cusp of the England set up when he arrived at Spurs, but the move just didn’t work out for either party.

And when speaking on the ‘Fulham Fix’ podcast, Davis admitted that he actually regretted ever leaving Fulham for Spurs.
Speaking about his Fulham departure, Davis said: “I went to Everton and I failed a medical with bruising on the knee, came back, and that’s when Spurs came in.
“Yeah, and then you know, Steve Finnan had left, Louis Saha had gone, Edwin van der Sar had gone.
“Listen, I’d admit now if I could go back and make the decision, I wouldn’t have gone. I know some people say don’t live with regrets.
“Yeah, I’ve got loads of them mate, and that was probably one of them. I wish I would have stayed.
“I wish I could have been a one club player, because then maybe I would have gone straight into coaching and probably would still be in football – maybe would have been an ambassador for Fulham or something.”
Sean Davis won a trophy after leaving Spurs
Interestingly, Davis did actually end up winning the FA Cup with Portsmouth after leaving Spurs.
Davis’ best football arguably came for Fulham – hence his regrets about leaving the club, but the Englishman also thrived for Portsmouth under Harry Redknapp.
Games | Goals | Assists | |
Fulham | 197 | 20 | 9 |
Tottenham | 20 | 0 | 0 |
Portsmouth | 116 | 4 | 10 |
Bolton | 4 | 0 | 0 |
Bristol City | 3 | 0 | 0 |
Of course, it should be mentioned that injuries also played a significant part in Davis’ struggles to impress at Spurs during his one and a half year stay at the club.
In terms of the midfielder’s other career honours, Davis did win the Intertoro-Cup with Fulham in 2003 before his move to Tottenham.
An excellent player on his day, even if his move to north London was one he eventually lived to regret.
