Achraf Hakimi and his Paris Saint-Germain teammates were delighted after they beat Liverpool 4-1 on penalties to reach the quarter-finals of the Champions League.
Only Mohamed Salah converted his spot-kick out of the penalty takers from Liverpool, with Darwin Nunez and Curtis Jones’ attempts being saved by Gianluigi Donnarumma.
Meanwhile, PSG were perfect from 12 yards out, with Vitinha, Goncalo Ramos, Ousmane Dembele and Desire Doue all scoring from the spot – ending Liverpool’s hunt for a potential double this season.
The Reds could have equalised after Dembele’s initial strike had they not been as wasteful as they were in the final third.
Achraf Hakimi angers Liverpool fans by unfurling PSG flag
As PSG defeated Liverpool in what proved to be a box-office clash, Hakimi could not help but resist taking a dig by unfurling the French side’s flag in front of the home fans.
The Moroccan international would have been in the highest possible spirits as Luis Enrique’s side earned a famous victory at Anfield.
However, Liverpool fans were far from happy seeing Hakimi’s gesture in the flesh and let the PSG defender aware of that.
Journalist Ian Doyle revealed: “Hakimi just went to the centre spot and unfurled a PSG banner. Those left on the Kop didn’t like that at all. ‘Where’s your European Cup?’ comes the shout.”
How Mohamed Salah reacted to Liverpool’s defeat vs PSG
But Liverpool players and fans will mainly be upset that they could not get one over a PSG side that are inferior to them on paper.
Considering the Parisians won on penalties as well, the defeat will sting them even more.
Mohamed Salah was dejected after the contest, as he was spotted in tears.
Salah and Liverpool will now be looking to break down why they could not defeat an undeniably brilliant PSG side and look ahead to their upcoming games as they could still win the Premier League title and the Carabao Cup this season.
