A pitchside video of Luis Diaz celebrating against Southampton over the weekend shows just how invested he is in the Liverpool cause.
Diaz has been heavily linked with a move away from the Reds this summer amid speculation that Barcelona is interested in signing the Colombian, but for as long as he is at Anfield, there will be no doubts around his commitment to the cause.
Diaz provided the assist for Darwin Nunez’s equalizer against Southampton on Saturday, driving to the touchline with the ball before cutting a pass back for the Uruguayan forward to slot home.
A camera situated behind the goal captured Diaz celebrating furiously, kicking the advertising hoardings before screaming: “Vamos! Vamos! Vamos!” in the direction of the Kop, endearing himself to the thousands of fans in attendance.
It was reported last month that Barcelona had been emboldened in its pursuit of Diaz after it was announced that the Catalan club’s Squad Cost Limit, which is the amount of money a La Liga club is allowed to spend over the course of a season, was increased by €37 million ($39 million) following the winter transfer window.
Barcelona has struggled financially in recent years and saw its Squad Cost Limit slashed last January, but it has since increased to $485 million — more than double the amount it was 12 months ago.
It was claimed by Spanish outlet AS that Barca sporting director Deco believed the club’s extra spending power would give it the capability to sign Diaz.
Deco is said to be a big fan of Diaz and thinks he can play on either flank, while also being capable of contributing a significant number of goals.
Diaz’s contract at Liverpool is due to expire in 2027 and at the moment he is said to have no desire to renew, which could prompt Barcelona to test the waters with a bid for the Reds star this summer.
