‘Really poor’: John Aldridge says £34m Liverpool player has actually been quite bad recently

Liverpool are in the middle of a dream run at the moment.

Aside from their FA Cup defeat to Plymouth Argyle, The Reds haven’t lost a match since September, and the title race looks to be over.

Liverpool have been excellent this season, but there have been a few cagey performances as of late.

Indeed, Liverpool were dominated by PSG in the Champions League last week, but a late goal from Harvey Elliott combined with Alisson Becker’s heroics rescued a win for Liverpool.

Meanwhile, Liverpool had a poor first-half against Southampton on Sunday as they went in 1-0 down at the break.

Speaking on the Blood Red Podcast, John Aldridge has been discussing Liverpool’s last two performances, and he says that Mohamed Salah has been poor in his last two matches.

Mohamed Salah has been poor recently

Aldridge shared his verdict on the £34m man and his recent performances.

The pundit says that he’s been critical of Salah’s performances over the last two matches, claiming that he needs to improve if he wants to win the Ballon d’Or.

Salah has been tipped for the Ballon d’Or recently, but, Aldridge hasn’t been impressed by his recent showings.

“Do you know we talk about Salah? Because we’re talking having a pint after the game, as I do normally, to celebrate. I was very critical of Mo the last two games,” Aldrudge said.

“Now, if he wants to be a Ballon d’Or winner, which I’d love him to get, he can’t play like he did last Wednesday. You know, he was just nothing, nothing more, nothing. He didn’t win one challenge, he was really poor.”

Mohamed Salah stats vs PSG and Southampton

Aldridge says that Salah has been poor in his recent performances, and he’s not too far wrong.

The Egyptian has been off his game in his last two matches, and yet, somehow, he’s still scored two goals.

However, both of those goals were penalties, and Salah’s all-round performances have dipped recently.

Salah’s numbers against PSG were particularly poor.

Interestingly though, Salah’s stats against Southampton were much better

Salah does have a tendency to dip in the second-half of seasons sometimes, and Liverpool will be hoping the same thing isn’t happening here.

Who knows? Perhaps the winger’s contract situation is finally getting to him.

Salah’s contract is up in the summer, and while contract talks are going well, his future remains uncertain at this point.

Fingers crossed Salah can quickly rediscover his best form.
