Troy Deeney leaves everyone stunned when predicting what he’d cost in the modern transfer market

The former Watford striker has caused a massive debate online after being asked what he’d cost if he was sold today.

Former Watford striker Troy Deeney has shocked fans after claiming exactly how much a club would have to pay to buy him in today’s market.

It’s safe to say that in recent years, the cost of buying a football player on the transfer market is starting to reach prices that once would have been laughable.

With moves like Jhon Duran’s €77 million transfer from Aston Villa to Al Nassr, one can only imagine what players like Thierry Henry or Steven Gerrard may have cost in the current market.

But BBC pundit Deeney is fairly certain he knows exactly how much he would be worth today, and fans cannot believe it.

Deeney made over 600 appearances across the English football leagues and cup competitions, with 165 of them coming in the Premier League for Watford.

During his time in the English top flight, the striker scored a total of 47 goals, but it’s clear he thinks he could have further improved on this number.

Therefore, it maybe comes as no major surprise that Deeney was confident when ESPN asked him to stay quiet until he heard an accurate price tag for a prime Troy Deeney in today’s transfer market

Eventually, the Englishman relented once the number reached £50million, saying: “Yeah that’s more than enough. 50 is more than enough, nice round number.

I had 30 million offered for me before with Leicester, so working on inflation. Do you know what I mean?”

When he was told that Dominic Solanke joined Tottenham Hotspur last summer for a £70million price tag Deeney considered upping his price, but ultimately concluded: “Nah 50 is enough. I’m a humble guy clearly.”

However, fans reacting to the clip clearly don’t agree with Deeney’s perspective, and there weren’t shy in letting him know.

Replying to ESPN’S clip, one fan wrote: “Bro 10 mil max if there any club wanted him.”

Another agreed, adding: “Never scored more than 10 goals in a prem season, relax man.”

While one claimed: “You’d have to pay someone to take him.”

And another hit out at the comparison to Solanke, writing: “Solanke is so much better than him LOLLL he couldn’t dream of a 19 goal PL season, even when Watford were decent.”
