Arsenal are looking to sign a new striker in the summer transfer window.
Arsenal have needed a new striker for a long time now, and they have their eyes on some ambitious targets.
Alexander Isak is Arsenal’s dream target, while Ollie Watkins is still on Arsenal’s transfer radar after a failed January bid.
Arsenal are also looking at options within Europe, and according to Steve Kay, speaking on KS1 TV, Santiago Castro is a player that Arsenal have closely looked at signing.
Kay says that Arsenal are keen on Castro, but he may not be headed to Arsenal this summer, and he may be more of a long-term option.
Arsenal looking at Santiago Castro
Kay shared an update on Arsenal’s search for a new striker.
According to the journalist, Santiago Castro is on Arsenal’s radar, claiming that the forward is seen as a wonderkid by those in Italy.
Castro is currently starring for Bologna, and Arsenal do have a good relationship with the Italian club having signed Takehiro Tomiyasu and Riccardo Calafiori from the Serie A club in recent years.
“Santiago Castro is another player who has been linked to Arsenal, can you tell us about that transfer,” The host asked.
“Yeah look, this again this is one that is very early days. From what I’ve been told he’s one, Arsenal are looking to strengthen their strikeforce over the next couple of seasons,” Kay said.
“I’m not sure if Castro is even one that would happen this summer, but he’s one who’s been closely looked at and spoken about from speaking to people over in Italy.
“They call him a wonderkid, he’s from Bologna, we bought Tomiyasu from there and we bought Calafiori from there, we have a good relationship with Bologna.”
Santiago Castro stats this season
Arsenal fans would be forgiven for not knowing all that much about Santiago Castro. After all, he’s only been a regular starter for Bologna since the start of this season.
However, Castro may soon be a household name as at the age of just 20, he’s already impressing in Serie A.
Castro is enjoying a solid breakout season for Bologna, netting seven goals already this season alongside four assists.

Of course, Arsenal will need more than this if they are to win the Premier League next season, but as a long-term depth option, Castro could well be a good pick for Arsenal.
Benjamin Sesko has also been linked to Arsenal, and at the respective ages of 21 and 20, Sesko and Castro could be stars of the future.
As Kay says, Arsenal may look to make this move in the future, so this could be one to keep an eye on in this summer and beyond.
