Tottenham Hotspur could be on the hunt for a new manager for next season.
Ange Postecoglou has had to go through a lot of problems this term because of injuries. Things have just not gone to plan, and the season could go from bad to worse soon.
Spurs are a goal down heading into the second leg of their Europa League clash against AZ Alkmaar. TBR Football revealed that Tottenham’s decision-makers told Postecoglou that the first-leg defeat was unacceptable. Some members of the hierarchy even feel that a change of manager is required now.
Simone Inzaghi is among those who have been linked with the Tottenham job.
Thierry Henry delivers verdict on Tottenham manager target Simone Inzaghi
Tottenham are having a really poor season.
The North Londoners are currently 13th in the Premier League table after winning just 10 of their 28 games so far this season.
Spurs are out of the two domestic cups too, and there is a chance that they will crash out of the Europa League as well on Thursday.
If that happens, Postecoglou could be shown the door, and reports have claimed that Fabio Paratici is trying to convince Tottenham to appoint Inzaghi.
The Italian is among the best managers in the world, and he has done a phenomenal job at Inter Milan over the last few years.
Inzaghi has many admirers in world football, and Arsenal legend Thierry Henry is one of them.
He said on CBS Sports: “People talk about the team, they don’t often talk about the coach. That coach is outstanding for me. What he offers tactically, it’s a bit crazy when you think about it.
“And you talk about Italian teams, when you see your centre-backs in midfield, your left-centre-back high and wide on the left, the one in the middle underneath him crossing for the other centre-back in the box, and when you press pause, the three holding midfielders are playing as centre-backs to bring the ball out – I didn’t see a lot of people do that in history, especially in Italy.
“So, it’s a team that you have to respect and a coach that you have to respect also.”
Simone Inzaghi at Inter Milan vs Ange Postecoglou at Tottenham
Inzaghi became Inter Milan’s manager in the summer of 2021, two years before Postecoglou took charge of Tottenham.
The Italian has done a great job there, and his numbers compared to Postecoglou are significantly better.
Games | Wins | Draws | Losses | Goals scored | Goals conceded | Points per game | Trophies won | |
Simone Inzaghi at Inter Milan | 200 | 133 | 36 | 31 | 399 | 166 | 2.18 | 6 |
Ange Postecoglou at Tottenham | 85 | 41 | 12 | 32 | 164 | 130 | 1.59 | 0 |
As the table shows above, Inzaghi’s men average slightly more goals scored per game, considerably fewer conceded, and their points tally is significantly better too.
To add to that, the Italian has won multiple trophies – something that Postecoglou has not done at Spurs.
If the Australian does get sacked, we think Inzaghi would be a great appointment for Tottenham.
