Liverpool have now stepped up their interest in signing Liam Delap from Ipswich Town as the club plans a revamp of their striker department for next season, TBR Football can reveal.
During his first season at Liverpool, Arne Slot has predominantly used either Darwin Nunez, Diogo Jota or Luis Diaz as his central striker, but none of the trio have nailed down the role.
It’s increasingly likely that Nunez leaves Anfield this summer and therefore Liverpool do want a new central option.
Nunez was linked with the Saudi Pro League in January, even if the striker eventually remained with Slot’s side for the remainder of the season.

Nunez’s situation considered, Liverpool are in the market for a new forward and Delap is a striker they are doing work on.
Graeme Bailey – TBR Football chief correspondent, understands that Liverpool have watched Delap multiple times since the turn of the year.

However, Liverpool are not alone in their interest – Chelsea are already planning a bid for Delap themselves.
In addition, Newcastle United, who also need to replace at least one of their strikers this summer, if not both, have also been paying close attention to Delap’s progress.
Chelsea are leading the chase for the Ipswich striker at present, one that also includes Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur, who have both asked to be kept informed about Delap’s situation.
Arsenal and Aston Villa have both looked at Delap this season too, but he isn’t at the top of their lists, even if it would be unwise to discount either club.
Darwin Nunez is likely to depart Anfield this summer
In terms of Liverpool’s interest, Delap would be able to play out wide for Slot if needed, even if he is predominantly a number nine.
Delap has scored 10 goals in 27 matches for Kieran McKenna at Ipswich in the Premier League this season, a very impressive tally for his first top flight campaign.
As a result, Liverpool have now stepped up their work on the England under-21 striker in recent weeks and months.
Of course, it should be added that Liverpool are interested in Benjamin Sesko – the club are looking at more than one possibility in the number nine position.
None of Nunez, Jota, Diaz or even Cody Gakpo have reached double figures in the league this season, explaining why Slot could benefit from the arrival of a new goalscorer this summer.
